Today, with the rising problem of violent crime, a security alarm system or a burglar alarm may be your best solution to protect your family and valuables. While many homes and businesses already have these security alarms systems in place, many people do not. Why? Is it too expensive for the average home owner, perhaps? But, on the other hand, what value can you place on safety? These can be difficult questions for the average person. Let’s take a closer look at security alarm systems and see if we can reach a solution to these and other questions.

How do external Security alarm systems work?

The simplest security alarm systems work on a “broken” circuit concept. These alarms are built into an entrance way, like a door or window, and the way they work is very simple. Electrical current must have a path to flow through. If you break the path, the charge is broken and the current stops. In a closed circuit system, the path that the electricity travels on is closed when a door or window is closed or shut. This means that the electricity can continue to flow from one side to the other. If the door or window is opened, it breaks the path the electricity is traveling on. This signals an alarm to go off. Letting you know a door or window has been opened.

In an open circuit system, the opposite holds true. When you open a door or window with this system it closes the system or flow of electricity and the alarm will go off. Letting you know a door or window is open. Perhaps, by someone you were not expecting. You may want to use a closed circuit, rather then an open one, as a burglar can cut the wires on the open circuit fairly easily.

Some open and closed circuit systems use a magnet embedded in the door or window that lines up with a switch. Others use a spring-driven switch. There are also the switches that are little buttons that are pressed by the pressure of the closed door or window and released when it is opened.

How do interior security alarm systems work?

While circuit alarms can work fairly well to keep an intruder out, what do you do if one gets past the circuit alarms and gets inside? Motion detectors are probably your best defense against an intruder who gets inside.

There are several different types of motion detectors in the world. You see them at work every time you go to the grocery store. They open the door for you. The door works on a radar based motion detector. The little box you see above the door sends out a microwave signal or ultrasonic sound waves. These units then wait for the waves to reflect off of something, usually you, and bounce back. When they bounce off of you, it displaces the reflection in a disturbed pattern and it then opens the door. With this type of security alarm system, the box is in the room and when the pattern is disturbed it send a signal to set off the alarm.

There are many different security alarm systems on the market. Some can be had for around $10 as a DIY project, while others require a specialist to install. The choice is yours on which you choose.

Unless you have priceless pieces of art or lots of cash laying around that a burglar knows about, chances are the only reason that your home will be broken into is because it presents an easy, irresistible target. Although burglar alarms are nice, burglars know that many people forget to turn their alarms on. They also know that they have at least 2 minutes before the police are called, as the security company first calls you to verify if there is an emergency. So how do you keep burglars far away? It’s called “house hardening” and it means making your house a less attractive target and also harder to get into.

It Starts Far From the House – at the Curb

Everyone has heard that good lighting will discourage burglars. But beautiful flowers can be even more of a deterrent! Plant rosebushes at all of your windows, or at least under the windows that are less visible from the curb, to deter burglars. The prospect of climbing through thorns to break into your window will help the would-be burglar choose another target.

Also, whether you own a dog or not, a 99 cent “Beware of Dog” sign is a great addition to your fence or gate. Given the option, a burglar would rather not deal with Fido! While your immediate neighbors might wonder why you have a sign and no dog, a burglar is generally not one of your neighbors, and won’t know the difference.

Where Most Burglars Come In

Once you have planted your roses and put up your sign(s), turn your attention to the number one entry point for burglars: your front door. At the very least, install “long throw” deadbolts on your doors to make it more difficult for a bad guy to force his way in. Better still is a product like “The Door Club” or any other jamb device that reinforces your door. The biggest, thickest door is only as strong as the two or three screws holding the lock’s striker plate on the door frame. Most any standard door can be forced pretty quickly, believe it or not.

Next, harden your overhead garage door. All garage door openers have a red cord hanging from the mechanism that you can pull to disengage the door in case the power goes out, so that you can open the door without the opener. At the end of the red cord is normally a little plastic “T-Handle” that you grab onto in order to disengage the garage door opener. What some smart burglars are doing is coming up to your garage door, leaning / pushing against the top panel and inserting a coat hanger through the gap. With this, they are able to fish around and grab that T-handle and yank it, disengaging the garage door. With a little practice, even you can learn to do this within a minute! By merely removing the T-handle, you thwart this clever way burglars have to enter your house.

Surveillance cameras are proven to be effective in solving crime and also in preventing crime to business and government establishments and you know what is the good news? It can also protect your family and your whole household! Installing surveillance cameras into your home can actually help you know who comes in and out of your house especially if you are not at home. Many people have wrong concept about surveillance cameras: that this is only for big establishments or for celebrity homes. Surveillance cameras were invented for security purposes to act as an eye and ear of the homeowners or business owners when they are not around.

Now that you know how advantageous it is to install home security camera into one’s home the best thing that you should do is to familiarize yourself with the different types of home surveillance cameras and choose which of the numerous cameras is suitable to your needs. You see, there are different types of surveillance cameras and not one of them is the same. Although, it functions the same but there are cameras which has special features that are different from the rest. The difference may be at the shape, size as well as the price. Knowing where to put your camera is the first step in shopping for one. Do you want to hide your camera or do you want to place it where people walking through your house can spot the camera? Most people would want their surveillance cameras hidden and this task is not that easy because there are so many things to consider when hiding a camera. Others would install it on their roof or behind their walls. Another way of keeping a home security camera hidden is to place it inside a figurine, décor or stuffed toy.

Aside from installing home security cameras in your home, you can also install fake security cameras which would fool the people in your home into thinking that there is an actual surveillance camera watching them. The downside of installing this type of camera is that if something bad will happen then you will have no record of the incident. We all know how bad crime has gotten and that it continues to worsen in virtually every area of the country. Whether its home invasions or vandalism, crime is out of control. And, almost every homeowner and business owner is looking for a way to provide some level of protection for their property, their families and their employees. But, financially, times are hard. So, people are asking for an effective way to prevent crime that doesn’t cost a fortune, is reliable and doesn’t have to be installed by some licensed (expensive) installer.

Many people are turning to Dummy Security Cameras to accomplish this level of security. Some people are installing systems that are comprised of only these fake surveillance cameras, while some are installing hybrid systems that utilize both real outdoor security cameras and fake cameras, too. Either way is effective, affordable and relatively simple.

A fake security camera is a camera housing, made by the same people who make the real surveillance cameras, that does not have the camera technology inside. Since it doesn’t have the expensive technology, it’s much less expensive. Also, since it’s not a real, functioning camera, it does not have to be connected to a DVR or monitoring station. So, not only does it cost less for materials like cabling, etc, it’s also much easier to install. Also, the expensive DVR can be eliminated. They come complete with a fake cable coming off the back, so any would be burglar won’t be able to tell it’s not real. Also, some even offer flashing LED lights, which operate on batteries, to further enhance the look of being a real, functioning outdoor camera. So, if you want your system to be comprised of only these fake surveillance cameras, you can install it in an hour or so, have it cost maybe $100-200 and immediately begin faking out the criminals.

However, if you’d like to incorporate some real outdoor security cameras, as well as some fake surveillance cameras, it’s just as easy. You can find outdoor security systems which are complete, down to the cabling and bolts, which generally come with 4, 8 or 16 real cameras, along with a DVR. And, so many homeowners and business owners are purchasing, say a 4 camera system and supplementing it with say another 4-dummy security cameras. This way, they can “cover” double the area but not spend double the money. Additionally, since only 4 cameras have to be connected to the central station, time and materials are greatly reduced from what an 8 camera system requires. Again, the burglar is not going to know which, if any, security cameras are fakes and which ones are real.

I mean, think about it, if you were a burglar staking out a place, you’d probably be hopped up on adrenaline and not thinking too clearly. So, as soon as you see any cameras, you’re going to think twice before attempting a break in or damage to the property. Dummy Security Cameras may just be the answer to your needs.

With the economy still faltering many people are struggling to make ends meet. When this is the case in any country it often leads to an increased rate of opportunistic crimes, so much so that it becomes a kind of alternative economy. The truth about most crimes that are financially rewarding is that they form part of our economy that is hidden and not represented by the latest employment statistics. The relationship between a city’s perceived economy is directly correlated with the rate of economic crimes, like theft and home break ins that occur. This means that with the economy still in recovery, people are seeing a high frequency of crimes in their neighborhoods and feel that their home security is generally lower.

This is not a new phenomenon, it is simply a fact of how we are all intimately connected by a delicate economic balance. The reality is that when there aren’t enough ways for people to make an honest living, they will do what they can to make any kind of living. For some people, this may mean resorting to a life of crime to try to survive off of stealing the goods of others. During these hard economic times, however, people should not have to live with the expectation of crime. Everyone has a right to home security, no matter how poor the economy is. Those who do have the financial means to make an honest living don’t deserve to be victims of these crimes. The balance can be maintained in alternative forms that take into account the rise in crime rather than ignoring it like it doesn’t exist.

The first step in maintaining a sense of balance and order in the relationship between the economy and crime is to protect yourself. The best way to prevent these crimes from happening is to invest in a home security system that will actually serve as a preventative measure against a home break in. This tool will serve as the first line of defense in the face of increased risk of theft. This is a step that should be taken by everyone in these economic times. It is the only real way to prevent this kind of crime from happening to you.

Once people take care of their own personal home security through the installation of a home alarm system, then further steps can be taken to help resolve the differences between the haves and have-nots. The real test of economic stability comes in measuring the gap between those who are comfortable and those who are struggling to meet their daily needs. In looking at this gap it is easy to see that crime rates are higher the wider the gap is. So instead of only focusing on protecting oneself from crime individually, people need to think more collectively about how to make the gap smaller.

There is no one size fits all answer to this question, the reality is that there are many small ways to make small differences in the gap between the wealthy and the poor. Some people donate to charities, others spend time volunteering, and still others work to change the systems of oppression that get us all here in the first place. Every small act or contribution people can make towards closing this gap can make a difference in the level of overall security people feel in their own neighborhoods. However the only way to make big changes, to make the gap significantly smaller, is if more people donated their money and time to helping their neighbors so that they wouldn’t have to resort to a life of crime.

There are a wide range of things that can influence people’s home security needs. Where you live, your socioeconomic status, and you lifestyle can all affect what security system is right for you. The following steps will help you choose a system that best matches your individual needs.

1. Start by counting the number of doors and windows that will need to be monitored, or incorporated into your system. It is a good idea to at least make sure that your front and back doors are covered, as well as any ground floor windows. For windows above the ground floor, you will need to use your own judgment, based on how accessible these might be as realistic points of entry for potential burglars.

2. Next, you should decide where your control panel and keypads are going to be located. The most popular place for keypads (these are the devices that allow you to activate and deactivate your home security system by punching in a pass code) is by the front door, but many people also choose to install additional keypads by the back door and outside the master bedroom. This will depend on what is convenient for you.

3. The next thing to do is measure the distance between the control panels and the doors and windows that are going to be incorporated into your security system. This will determine how much wiring you will need.

4. Now you should think about whether or not you will be electing to hire a monitoring service to watch over you system. These services cost an additional monthly fee, but they also assure that your home is being protected around the clock – twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. If you decide that a professional monitoring system is not going to work for you at the moment, a more budget friendly alternative is to select a home security system with a dialer accessory. This is a device that you program to call a predesignated phone number if there is a breach in your system. You might, for example, set it up so that it calls your cell phone. You can then, in turn, call the police if necessary.

5. After that, it is time to take your lifestyle and that of your family members into account. Do you have people coming and going from your house at all hours of the night? Do you have any large pets that might trigger a motion sensor? These factors can affect what type of home alarm system you end up using.

6. Once you have done your preliminary research, you will need to start looking for an actual home security company and system. In order to make sure that you are getting the best deal possible, it is always a good idea to consider several options before making a decision. You can compile a list of security companies in your area by looking online, talking to friends and neighbors, and contacting your local police department.

Everyone wants to feel safe when they’re at home. You want your family to be safe and you want your valuables to be secure when you are not at home. For many people a home security system is the solution. But, a good home security system can be expensive and simply out of reach for some people. One option for people that want the peace of mind of a security system without the expense would be to fake it but do dummy security cameras work? The quick answer to that question is yes but…

Dummy security cameras can work in some scenarios. If a criminal is bound and determined to get into your house he will get into your house whether your security camera is real or fake. Every bank you’ve ever been in more than likely had several security cameras however, it is also quite likely that that bank has been robbed at some point. With that being said, a security camera will certainly act as a deterrent and studies have shown that the presence of video cameras has effectively reduced crime rates.

The fact that a camera acts as an effective deterrent is something that real cameras share with dummy security cameras. Some of the dummy cameras on the market today are very convincing. The cameras look real and may even have a flashing red light or automatically swivel back and forth adding to the authentic look of the camera. If a criminal can’t tell the difference between the real camera and the dummy camera then they will both work equally well as a deterrent to criminal activity.

Ideally your security cameras, whether real or phony, should be part of an overall security system. In addition to cameras it would be a good idea to have things like outdoor lighting triggered by motion detectors, good quality locks on the doors and windows, and even a burglar alarm. The more you can do to protect your house the better but every little bit helps. A thief will usually take the path of least resistance and will generally choose to rob a house without a security system rather than a home with a security system and if a thief thinks he’s being videotaped attempting to break into your house he may have second thoughts about doing so.

Home security alarms are not purchased by people in high crime areas, the main reason being that they just can’t afford a dollar a day. The people who buy home security alarms are mainly the families living in the nicer areas of town.

The good part of town is actually the target for burglars, If you think about it why would a burglar want to go robbing people on the poor side of town? Isn’t the whole point of robbing someone money?

The reason criminals target nice homes in nice areas is because you appear to have money. This may or may not be the case, but the only way for the intruder to find out if you have any valuable possessions is to break into your home whether you are there or not.

Home security alarms will prevent even the dumbest crook from trying to enter your home. The people who purchase home security alarms are the type of people who feel responsible for protecting their home and family.

It is a sad fact that a lot of people don’t really care what happens to their family, there are also many people who think that nothing bad can happen to them, but the strange fact is that those are the type of people that bad things happen to all of the time.

Many police officers in even the nicest neighborhoods have home security alarms to help protect their families.

The reason for this is because they see what goes happens on a daily basis, and they are well aware that the majority of break-ins occur in the nicest quietest neighborhoods.

Also many house wives have home security alarms because they are usually home by themselves all day or have small children with them.

Since most break-ins happen during the day this puts home makers at risk of being attacked by sexual predators.

Of course the richest of the rich have home security alarms and the reasons are obvious, but that doesn’t mean that they are out of reach for the rest of us.

Home security alarms are very affordable today because the systems keep getting better and crime is on the rise.

Monitored security companies are well aware that home security alarms need to be affordable for everyone, because everyone deserves to be able to protect their families.
