Designing an effective camera security system can be a daunting task for the average person. There is a great deal more considerations than simply making sure that all of your blind spots are covered. When considering your camera system design and formulating a plan to make the purchase and installation process easier for a professional, you should have several questions and answers prepared. This is especially important if you are unsure about the technical specifications of your preferred camera equipment. Nothing is worse than choosing camera security equipment only to find out that it does not serve the purpose that you hoped it would.

Camera Security System Design Considerations

There are generally seven major questions that you should ask when determining the type of camera security system that is best for you. These questions are:

What sorts of security cameras are best for your needs? If you already have a certain type of camera in mind, it can be very helpful in making your decision. You should consider whether or not the cameras need to be hidden or clearly visible. Choosing between black and white cameras and color cameras is also often an important consideration. Today’s latest decision is about using IP cameras or legacy analog cameras.

In what way will these cameras be connected to their management system? Are you planning on using Coaxial cable, twisted pair (UTP) cable, Fiber of Ethernet Cable such as CAT5 or CAT6. Each of these cables offers different advantages so you must assess which is best for you and stays within your budget. You must also ensure that the cameras are properly connected to monitoring devices in a way that prevents tampering or alteration.

What is the best video management system for your needs? This question is often best answered by a professional. If you only require a single camera, your system will be very simple. However, hundreds of cameras may require a very sophisticated management system. Most importantly make sure you see the system software in live action and that it is easy to use.

What are your storage needs? Determine how long you will need to archive the video. Most incidences are discovered within days but as an industry standard 30 days is the most common storage log. There are instances that you may need to store video for longer periods of time. This may even be governed by different laws and government agencies. Always make sure you export video incidences as soon as they are discovered. Leaving them on the systems hard drive is a recipe for disaster.

What are your video analytics needs? Many people confuse video analytics with video motion detection. Although systems can be pricey, video analytics actually uses technology to focus on specific suspicious behavior such as mass movement of products or people and can even identify certain characteristics in people or situations. Motion detection simply assumes any change is important in the video scene.

How will you view surveillance footage? The days of tape recorders is long gone and having to watch the entire tape in fast forward. However, using the latest technology and digital video recorders you can instantly search to a particular time and date and quickly scan through the video footage. In some cases, you can use a feature that only searches for motion activity in a particular area of the overall scene. This feature can greatly reduce the time spent reviewing video.

Will cameras be enough? You may need a far more advanced system than surveillance cameras. If you want to have a log of an event and prevent such an event from happening, you may need other security systems to support the footage. Cameras can provide a log of an event but cannot necessarily prevent such an even from occurring. If the damage is already done, the cameras that you use may be nothing more than a painful reminder.

The subject of home security is very important and should be given plenty of advance thought regardless of whether you live in an apartment or house that you own. You want to be sure that your possessions and personal safety are well protected at all times. All of the best home security measures in the world cannot help you after a crime has been committed. They can only be of use to help prevent the crime in the first place. So here are some simple ways to help increase your own personal safety:

* Install a home security system that can monitor all of the entry and exit areas of your home and sound a loud alarm if someone breaks in. If you happen to live in an apartment where you are not allowed to run wires through the walls, you can get a wireless home security system instead that will still do the job and has the advantage of being able to be removed and taken with you when you find a new place to live. Because of being wireless, these kind of security systems can also be very easy to install by the average person and they are inexpensive as well.

* Get a watchdog that will bark when someone they don’t know approaches the home. It doesn’t even have to be a big or ferocious dog at all, just one that makes noise when it feels threatened by a stranger. This one simple tip can be incredibly effective in protecting your personal safety as most criminals that have bad intentions do not want to have to deal with the loud noise and attention that a vocal dog can cause. They would rather choose an easier target instead.

* If you have valuables that are very expensive, it may be wise not to keep them at home at all. You can rent a safety deposit box in a bank instead for such high dollar or high value items. For other valuables you may want to consider a home safe as this lessens the possibility that a burglar can get at your valuables quickly and leave undetected. Speed and stealth are very important to home burglars and anything that you can do to slow them down improves your chances of protecting your valuable items.

* Lastly, always keep home security in mind. The best home security system won’t help you if you forget to turn it on. Likewise, you are only inviting trouble if you forget to lock your doors and windows at night. Hiding a key in close proximity to your front door is a way to allow intruders easy access to your home. So just try to think about home security as much as possible and make it part of your routine to actually use the home security equipment that you have, and practice safe home security measures as part of your daily life.

If you plan in advance for increasing your personal safety and then carry out your plans on a daily basis you will greatly improve your chances of keeping both you and your possessions safe and protected.

You will be solely accountable for providing your home with a good security system, to ensure that no burglary or theft takes place there. Get to know in what way or manner to take care of your family. Use these nine tips to better secure your apartment.

Designing an efficient video camera security system might be a problematic process for the average person. Consider getting help from a consultant to give advise on how the system should be set up. The reality is there are several wifi systems that might be installed in an apartment fairly inexpensively. Wireless security alarm systems may easily be expanded so if you can not pay for a full supplied system with sensors in each room in your home then invest in a standard system and add to that if and when you funds becomes better. Check that your home security system comes with a technical support system because it could take a while to configure it and you might need to have somebody who understands these types of alarms well to be able to manage them. If you rent or lease your security alarm you will pay out a smaller once a month charge for that rental or lease and unfortunately your once a month burglar alarm observation charge. You should get rid of the indicators that might specify that you’ve got simply no security within your apartment and much valuable items waiting around to get taken. It is also crucial for you to be aware that a plan for local community security will be able to typically help to keep children more secure as well. A home security system could be a direct line to 911 — the authorities, fire department, or ambulance. Purchase a peep hole on your apartment door! for this you require agreement, if you currently have one be certain it’s always clean and usable! make sure to see who’s there prior to open the door! In some systems there are panic alarm buttons.

In the end it is up to you to make sure that your apartment is safe to live in. If you are in doubt you can always have a security company consultant go through your home and advise on how you can improve your safety. Just remember that a company consultant is normally paid by commission, so be sure he is not selling you something that you do not need.

Today, with the rising problem of violent crime, a security alarm system or a burglar alarm may be your best solution to protect your family and valuables. While many homes and businesses already have these security alarms systems in place, many people do not. Why? Is it too expensive for the average home owner, perhaps? But, on the other hand, what value can you place on safety? These can be difficult questions for the average person. Let’s take a closer look at security alarm systems and see if we can reach a solution to these and other questions.

How do external Security alarm systems work?

The simplest security alarm systems work on a “broken” circuit concept. These alarms are built into an entrance way, like a door or window, and the way they work is very simple. Electrical current must have a path to flow through. If you break the path, the charge is broken and the current stops. In a closed circuit system, the path that the electricity travels on is closed when a door or window is closed or shut. This means that the electricity can continue to flow from one side to the other. If the door or window is opened, it breaks the path the electricity is traveling on. This signals an alarm to go off. Letting you know a door or window has been opened.

In an open circuit system, the opposite holds true. When you open a door or window with this system it closes the system or flow of electricity and the alarm will go off. Letting you know a door or window is open. Perhaps, by someone you were not expecting. You may want to use a closed circuit, rather then an open one, as a burglar can cut the wires on the open circuit fairly easily.

Some open and closed circuit systems use a magnet embedded in the door or window that lines up with a switch. Others use a spring-driven switch. There are also the switches that are little buttons that are pressed by the pressure of the closed door or window and released when it is opened.

How do interior security alarm systems work?

While circuit alarms can work fairly well to keep an intruder out, what do you do if one gets past the circuit alarms and gets inside? Motion detectors are probably your best defense against an intruder who gets inside.

There are several different types of motion detectors in the world. You see them at work every time you go to the grocery store. They open the door for you. The door works on a radar based motion detector. The little box you see above the door sends out a microwave signal or ultrasonic sound waves. These units then wait for the waves to reflect off of something, usually you, and bounce back. When they bounce off of you, it displaces the reflection in a disturbed pattern and it then opens the door. With this type of security alarm system, the box is in the room and when the pattern is disturbed it send a signal to set off the alarm.

There are many different security alarm systems on the market. Some can be had for around $10 as a DIY project, while others require a specialist to install. The choice is yours on which you choose.

Asking some important home security questions? If so, then it’s time to get serious about how you can best protect your home and family. Many people are in the same boat, and looking to get started on a better, more secure property and routine. It’s easy to let something this important go by the wayside because it seems it will ‘never happen to you,’ however that attitude can be exactly what attracts ‘opportunity’ crimes and criminals in the first place. It’s never to late to start with good home security habitats! Start with some of these top questions to improve your security and your peace of mind.

Is it possible to make the outside of the home safer? Of course it is! There are many ways to deter burglars such as automatic and motion detector lights, and even landscaping choices such as eliminating bushes and shrubs that provide a great deal of cover, or trees that reach over second story doors and windows. Always keep outbuildings like garage’s and sheds locked securely so that crimes of opportunity cannot be assisted by your own tools and belongings, and always keep your lawn clear of debris, clutter, tools and other items that either could help during a break in, or tell what’s inside.

Is it possible to prevent a home robbery or intrusion? There is never any one 100% guarantee to prevent a burglary, but there are ways to eliminate much of the risk. A great example is a home security system. Just displaying signs and stickers stating that your home is protected by such a system can actually reduce by three times the chance of an intruder touching your home. Statistically, homes located in certain zones with good law enforcement and neighborhood watch protection are also far less likely to be hit.

Are guns a good measure of self defense? The average person, without training, is far more likely to injure himself or herself with a gun than an intruder, at least statistically speaking. That being said, with proper training it can be an asset to protect a person in the event of an actual intrusion. However, the vast majority of people are far more likely to have the weapon turned against them to a detrimental end. If you must own a gun, always go through the proper training and legal channels, and keep the weapon constantly under lock and key to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.

How can a person defend himself or herself in the event of an intrusion? The more quickly help is on the way, the better off a person is in a distress situation such as a break in. When a monitored home security system has already notified authorities of the dire situation, then it’s far more likely the individual will be able to fend off intruders in the meantime. Never try to attack an aggressor, but always try to defend yourself with any nearby items, and of course by creating barriers in between you and the individual like locked doors.

Advancing technology is making more and more sophisticated home security equipment available to the average person to help them keep their home and family safe and secure. There are a lot of choices to make when setting up a good home security system plan, and here are some of the top security system components that should be considered as you do:

1. Having a basic alarm system that is triggered when someone opens an outside door or window is a great start, but there are ways for experienced burglars to get around such a system. So a very good secondary line of defense in case of a break-in is having motion detectors installed in every room of the home. They can be located in one of the ceiling corners so they are not obtrusive and can have a good view of the entire room. If you are way from home, these are great tools to detect a home intrusion because of the motion inside the house and sound the alarm as needed.

2. Alarm system monitoring services are another significant upgrade to the standard home alarm system. A monitoring service will be connected to your alarm by phone line and if the alarm is triggered they will first attempt to contact you as the homeowner on a predetermined phone number to be sure that the alarm has not been accidentally set off. If they cannot get you they call the local law enforcement to investigate the situation.

3. Adding video cameras to your home alarm system is another great upgrade that can keep you well-informed on all that is going on outside your home at all times. Surveillance video cameras have become so small and durable that they can now be placed outside the home at the most important spots and even be equipped with motion detectors that will sense when movement is taking place in it’s protected area. It can then notify you if you are home or just turn on a video recorder to capture the activity if you are absent.

4. A home safe is another valuable home security component. If for some reason thieves do manage to get past all of your security system defenses, a home safe can thwart all their efforts. Burglars do not want to spend a lot of time inside a home as every minute that they are inside increases the possibility that they can be detected and apprehended for their crime. A well placed and solidly installed home safe makes all the hard work and effort that they will have to go through to get into it much harder to justify, and so often prevents the theft of your most valuable possessions.

5. Including other monitoring systems along with your home security system can be very valuable for peace of mind too. Often companies can hook in a fire alarm system to the main alarm too, and if the fire alarm is triggered the appropriate fire station will be notified. Personal and medical alarms can be integrated this way too and that can be especially valuable for those with severe health problems and the elderly who live alone.

Considering these home security components when you either buy or upgrade your existing home security system can enhance your overall home security plans.
