Home security is often focused on detached, single-family houses. However, millions of Americans live in apartments, condos, and townhouses and have as many security concerns as homeowners.

Apartments are common targets for burglars, they are easier to stake out and they can hit more home with less work. This is why extra security measures are necessary if you’re an apartment dweller. While renter’s insurance is a good idea and can help you out after the fact, ideally you want to prevent your stuff being stolen. Home, or apartment, security should be the top priority for everyone, and particular attention should be to certain areas of security when living in an apartment.

It is especially important to lock your doors and windows. For your windows you should install strong sash locks, and should augment that with a security bar of some sort in the track of the sliding window. This will force a burglar to actually break the window which will draw a lot of attention to the scene, especially if you live in an apartment complex with a lot of neighbors in close proximity. If you do have a house, a window breaking will then sound an alarm from one of the window sensors that came with most monitored home security burglar alarm.

Keeping your front door locked is common sense, but not everyone goes the extra step and has a case-hardened steel deadbolt lock installed. If you live in an apartment, having a very strong deadbolt lock is highly recommended, talk to your landlord about installing one.

With the alarming rate of crime nowadays, we should all try to do whatever we can to protect ourselves. And with the bad economy we are experiencing, crime is really on the rise. Did you know that 66% of all the crimes committed here in the United States are burglaries? Of these, 62% are committed in the daytime between 9am and 3pm, when it is presumed that the home will be empty, because the occupants should be at work. It is estimated that a home is burglarized every 30 seconds in this country.

However, you can secure and protect your home with these new powerful, IP cameras. These IP cameras are one of the most recent innovations in home security technology. These IP cameras can plug directly into your computer or DVR. They use an IP address to transmit video through a network using ethernet/CATS cable. Because these cameras can connect to any computer, DVR or existing network little to no additional hardware is required, reducing your system cost.

In addition, since these IP cameras can connect into any network you can login remotely from any computer and view or play back video. Recently, a young lady was at her office and she decided to check out her home on her office computer. She was stunned to see two strangers in her home, burglarizing her home. She then called the police, right there from her office desk and these two scumbags were arrested while they were still in her home.

A home is, generally speaking, the most expensive thing a married couple ever buys. And even though the average price of a home has dropped substantially in the last several years, the average cost is somewhere north of $200,000.00. And yet statistics show that more people own security systems for their car than for their home. One of the reasons for that is they consider home security to be too expensive.

Yes it’s true you can spend an arm and a leg on home security. Getting a home security system can end up being very expensive even if they give you free equipment because you are committed to a three-year monitoring program. For most people, home security systems are just out of reach financially.

Here we are going to show you some cheap ways to improve your home security. They are not fool-proof but what security system is?

The first way is to look at your home as a burglar would. Are there any obstacles that are obvious to would-be burglars? Do you have any signs in your front yard warning of vicious dogs? Or a sign for a security system? You don’t need a dog or a system-just a sign will do. One of my favorites is an NRA sticker on your front window or a sign that says “Security provided by Smith & Wesson.”

Eliminate any shrubbery along lower-level doors and windows. How is the light around your house at night? The bad guys do not like well-lit places. They want to have places where they can hide to break into your house. Most burglaries are done during the day so they need those hiding places.

The biggest enemies of burglars are time, light and noise. The longer it takes a burglar to get into your house the less likely he is to pursue it. If you have motion activated spotlights outside or lights on the inside of a house that are on timers so they can be on when you are gone, those are a big help. If they do get into your house, do you have any alarms? The noisier they are the better!

You can get window alarms and door alarms for under $10.00. You can get some warning signs that are cheap as well. Or better, make up your own.

Burglars don’t like seeing security cameras. One of the best security cameras is the pan/tilt Home Security Camera. You can hook it up outside your front door and have it point in any direction. Once it is properly connected to your TV, you can see what your camera sees on your TV screen. It’s a great way to prevent home invasion.

With the rise of technology, security cameras are becoming more and more common in stores, government buildings, and private homes. The first security cameras were hard wired and usually fed back to a closed circuit television. Footage was then reviewed by security guards, either in real time or at a later date. Today, wireless technology has expanded the possibilities for security monitoring by providing us with the ability to secure our homes or businesses via wireless cameras.

7 Critical benefits to Wireless Cameras versus Wired Cameras

Wireless cameras offer many benefits not available with hard wired cameras. For example, a wireless security camera can be much more obvious and act as more of a deterrent to would be intruders.

Wireless cameras are generally a little bit larger than their wired counterparts and as a result are quite visible from the street level. Criminals are more likely to go for the ‘easy targets’ than those obvious security measures in place.

In addition, as a result of your alarm being wireless, your installation options are plentiful. Wireless cameras do not require as much accessory equipment, nor is there as much potential for damage by the elements or wildlife since there are no cords and complete weatherproof options are available.

Having said that, you can freely purchase additional camera’s to add to your existing set up as your budget or needs require. This means your system is fully scalable up to say 4 units.

Wireless cameras can usually be placed up to 40 metres away from their receivers since they are not restricted by wires.

Today’s sophisticated wireless camera’s offer ‘Digital Wireless Technology’ which provides you a dedicated and secure frequency which cannot be hacked into.

Finally, wireless camera motion detectors will not be disabled when a building’s electricity malfunctions and can detect intruders up to 6 metres away.

Seek professional, unbiased advice

If you are looking to purchase a wireless security camera for your home or office, you can do so at select electronic stores but beware that the range will be limited as will their advice. You can also search for a wireless security camera on the internet but unfortunately this option does not provide guidance or advice as to what would best suit your particular circumstances. To choose the best wireless security camera for your needs, it would be wise to speak with a professional with many years experience in the security industry. You’ll find their goal is primarily to offer unbiased advice and have you and your family safe.

Be mindful of your insurance obligations when it comes to installation

Another key aspect with getting professional advice is that the protocol around insurance claims can differ depending on whether you install your security camera yourself or get a professional to do it. Once again, this is the main benefit of working with an industry professional who has the knowledge and expertise to guide you to the right solution for your needs. Keep in mind that some security companies have an abundant range of stock on hand to suit every budget possible, from those who are looking for the best value up to those who want all the bells and whistles.

Wireless security cameras are among the most innovative surveillance technologies on the market, combining both affordability and functionality. You can purchase full weatherproof cameras for those outdoor areas and the sensitive motion detectors will mean potential intruders won’t even realise they are being filmed. In addition to the many benefits listed above you’ll find that the presence of a security camera at the front of your home will provide a massive deterrent to any would be intruders.

The need for a perfect home security alarm system is the need of the hour in most of the countries whether in urban, suburban or the rural areas due to rise in home breaking incidents.

Choosing the Right Security System

Out of the options available it is indeed a hard task to select the most appropriate system. Is a professionally monitored system better choice? Or one should go for wired or wireless system? This is what goes on into the minds of the average customer before installing any system.

Keep the following in mind before going in for any purchase of the right home security system for your house.

If you have a home security system with alarm in your mind, you could be sure of having a great effect on your home security. If you go for self-installed alarm systems, it could be just the right choice. Though they are easily available and are quiet satisfying but sometimes they may not function as perfectly as you wish.

Professionally Installed Alarm System

Professionally installed alarm system on the other hand could be a better option than the self-home alarm system as they offer more security, a better operation and many more benefits. It gives twenty-four hours functioning daily and in case you are unable to contact the monitoring authorities, you are still protected.

When it comes to making a choice between the wired and wireless security systems, the wireless systems have an upper hand due to their smooth functioning, better polished modern outlook.

Hybrid Wired/Wireless Systems, the Best Choice

When it comes to giving the best system to your home nothing could be better in the world than a hybrid wired/wireless security system. In this system the motion detectors and sensors are wireless whereas the main control unit is hard-wired in your home. On top of it they are run by the battery so they are functioning even when you do not have power back up in your house.

This is the only system which offers you the advantages of both the wireless and wired home security systems. As the sensors are wireless you could have them moved from one place to other in your house, also can have them increased or decreased in numbers as per your needs. So do not hurry while making a choice, choose the best system for your home and make it even safe and secure.

The above are a few home security tips you should keep in mind while getting your alarm home security system

Many types of security cameras systems are available in the market. There are wireless surveillance cameras both for indoor and outdoor use, wired video surveillance cameras, fake video surveillance cameras, and covert or hidden video surveillance cameras among others.

Outdoor surveillance cameras usually include protection such as durable casing, metal visor, and sport mounting, which can work against extreme weather and other factors that may compromise the quality. On the other hand, indoor surveillance cameras require dry weather or environment. Another difference between outdoor and indoor surveillance cameras is that some are wired while others are wireless.

These are just some of the major differences between security cameras; however, regardless of the type, they are all designed to protect and keep your property safe from criminals and burglars.

Wireless surveillance cameras are considered more beneficial as compared to ordinary wired surveillance cameras. Most home security cameras do not have wires that may cause you difficulty when installing the gadgets. Most often than not, wired security cameras often require rewiring if they do not work appropriately, which can take up most of your time and energy. More so, criminals and burglars will have a hard time deactivating wireless security cameras since they do not have any wire to cut. Wireless security cameras cannot be disrupted in terms of providing security and safety to your property.

Most importantly, wireless home security cameras can provide data into your computer. This data can be saved for future use. You can operate these types of surveillance systems even if you are far from the actual gadget since it can feed data into your personal computer.

Consequently, if you are choosing and purchasing surveillance systems whether for your home, business, or other properties; make sure you are getting the right type for the specific area you want the cameras to be installed. You should also consider the advantages or benefits of a particular type of surveillance system. Surveillance systems should be able to detect suspicious individuals immediately to keep you safe from criminals and burglars. These surveillance systems should be easy to install and operate. More so, they should be efficiently especially during the night when most criminals and burglars usually attack. You should also consider the quality as well as the price of surveillance cameras. If you are choosing and buying surveillance systems, it is always advisable to ask the expert advice from the retailers of security systems. This would allow you to obtain a surveillance system that is most suitable to your preferences and security needs. In addition, asking an expert about surveillance systems saves you time and effort in choosing from various types of cameras. Most often than not, retailers of surveillance systems recommend wireless security systems because they are more practical to install and use.

As mentioned earlier, wireless security systems do not requiring wiring, which usually takes time and effort to install. More so, the cameras can easily be transferred to your desired area since you do not have to rewire as that of wired security systems.

Adequate lighting is an integral part of home safety and security, yet many people still fail to realise this. Irrespective of where you live, you should always ensure that there is good illumination around the outside of your house, and that it is out of the reach of intruders.

As many burglars like to focus on the doors of a property, the lighting around your doors is extremely important. Any lighting is better than no lighting. Burglars are not usually keen to make an entry attempt in a well lit area. If however, the house and perimeter are in darkness, the burglar will sense a good chance of success.

If you have a garage, an automatic garage opener is a good idea. Most, once activated, will turn the lights on automatically. The carport is also essential to safety. When away from the property, leave the carport light on. Motion detected lights are also a very good idea. As soon as the sensor detects movement, the lights turn on. Most can be adjusted for sensitivity so that the cat won’t turn them on every time they walk past. The sudden illumination could well be enough to startle a burglar.

Motion detected lighting really is the best way to proceed when fitting lighting to the exterior of your property. An alarm can also be integrated into the system, the alarm being activated when an intruder’s movement activates the lighting. A burglar will usually flee when an alarm is sounded.

An adequate amount of lighting around your home will go a long way to protect your property from intruders. It also provides piece of mind to your family. Simple, cheap, but effective lighting around the outside of your home is a must.

More and more people are living in apartments and buying condos across the United States than ever before. Although these complexes may have roving security patrols or video cameras, you should never be lax when it comes to home security. In the end, the responsibility for the safety and your family and yourself lies directly with you.

Just like people who move into a two-story brick house in the suburbs, apartment dwellers and condominium owners should be vigilant from the moment they move into their new home. Burglaries affect everyone.

The very first thing that you do should be to change the locks on the doors. Stories of angry former renters, particularly in the case of condo conversions, returning to steal or damage property are more common than you might think.

For condo owners, switching out locks is an easy task, just take a trip down to the local hardware store and buy locks that match those allowed by your Homeowners Association. Don’t forget to change the locks on storage units as well. If you live in an apartment, the management is usually responsible for this. Make them aware that you want the locks changed (even if they claim the locks were recently switched). Management will likely want a copy of the door keys in case of emergency. Make sure this is the only key you give out. Make sure you keep those doors locked, even while you are home.

Don’t forget to lock those windows, too. Make sure the locking mechanism works – even try to open the locked window from outside just to be certain it doesn’t fail. Sliding glass doors are also an easy point of entry for even a poorly trained thief. To make it more difficult, you will want to place a support, even a piece of a broom handle, in the runners. This makes it impossible for the door to be forced open. This is a simple but effective home security measure.

Introduce yourself to your neighbors and get to know their names and faces. It makes it easier to spot suspicious people, and keep the entire neighborhood safe. If there is a community watch, you might even want to think about joining, or at least getting phone numbers and e-mail addresses of the members to whom you can report your concerns.

If there are any places with poor lighting, in the parking area for example, make sure you notify the HOA or property management right away. This is something that they need to take care of right away as it compromises the security of the whole community.

Perhaps the best thing you can do, both for your piece of mind and for your safety, is get some home alarms. There are a variety of good brands and styles on the market. This includes ones that work for both windows and doors. Again, you can check with your property manager or HOA to see what they recommend, and what they allow.

When it comes to increasing your home security, every little bit helps. Stay vigilant and stay safe.

Today, our society is constantly dealing with the rising crime and its effects on individuals and families. Propriety crime represents a little over three fourths of all crime in the United States. Security systems for this reason play an important role in protecting our homes and our families.

When we think of starting a family and building a home, we envision a safe, familiar place where we can nurture, protect, and raise a family; where we can create and store memories. This becomes nearly impossible to accomplish, when we think that every 15 seconds somewhere in the United States a home full of memories and treasures is being burglarized, and families are being violated and put in danger. With these statistics in mind you would think that more people would be concerned about the safety of their families and their propriety.

When we are not equipped with the appropriate protection for our homes, such as a home security system, we are living with a false sense of safety, endangering our loved ones, and we risk losing all that we have spent our lives building. Statistically speaking a home without a security system is two to three times more likely to be invaded and burglarized.

Most burglaries more often than not happen during the night, when families are sleeping and are most vulnerable. When a thief is daring enough to enter a home where people are sleeping it means that he is willing to risk everything and do all it takes to accomplish his mission. The robber in this case becomes a serious threat to the family and each members life is in danger. If though the family has an alarm system and it sounds when the burglar tries to break into the house, most likely than not he will run away. Many robbers do not even attempt to enter homes that have an alarm system in place.

When an alarm security system sounds it alerts the family as well as the police that an intruder is trying to enter the home. This gives the family time to react to the thief intrusion and gives the police the chance of arresting a robber, preventing future burglaries.

Once a family has experienced a burglary they feel violated, they live in fear, and their home no longer provides them with a feeling of security and safety. A security system can help prevent families from experiencing such negative incidents.

Propriety crime would not be so high if more people benefited from home security systems. Less families would be threatened and more people would be protected. Homes would truly be a place where our families can build memories and feel protected.
