Security cameras have been around for a long time, gaining their reputation
and popularity with businesses. As years went by and they became more
affordable people began to use them in their homes. A security camera at
home can be a great way to protect your home and family, keep an eye on the
babysitter, or just monitor things while you are away.

Statistics have shown that the number of robberies that occur in homes are
rising steadily in the past years.

If you are interested in protecting your home with a surveillance system, you
should first grasp the concepts of the technology, what it can and what it
cannot do for your safety.

A home security camera is basically part of an entire home security system.
Surveillance cameras are rarely used as standalone devices.

Normally they are connected to some type of alarm and used in conjunction
with motion sensors. These motion sensors register movements from the
images transmitted by the camera and could then trigger either an alarm or a
recording of the imagery or both.

The primary purpose of a home security camera is there to alert anyone
visually if an unwanted intruder is within the house. They do not provide a
sufficient level of security if used alone. They always should be used along
with home alarm systems. What good does a camera do if nobody is acting on
the image captured?

Another – often neglected – function of surveillance cameras for homes is that
they have proven to have a deterrent effect of any potential intruders. A
potential intruder will think twice if it is really worth attempting to break into
your house while he is likely to be observed by a camera and the footage
probably recorded.

Most intruders already have a criminal record and their pictures are on file with
the authorities. So any video footage of them will get them into much bigger
trouble that a first-time opportunity burglar. That first-timer however would
never choose a home that seems to have sophisticated security equipment
installed. Remember, if your camera never records any suspicious activity it
still might have saved you without you knowing it – solely due to the deterring
effect a camera has for intruders.

It is quite obvious that cameras that are low-priced could probably do the job
you want it to do for a couple of days or so. However, when the time comes
that this camera is to be used during the night, they are un-helpful.

A good home outdoor security camera must also be effective during the night.
There are actually home outdoor security camera brands that are on the
market and are effective and inexpensive.

Once in a while you will hear comments that the only things cameras will do is
attract criminals. The reasoning behind this can is understandable: If people
spot a security camera they tend to think there must be something valuable if
the owners install a camera. However, the reasoning of a burglar is quite
different. Criminals will weigh the risk against the potential return. While a
camera may hint that there is something valuable to get the risk level for the
intruder is raised substantially by an overt security camera.

Please be aware that the use of video surveillance on unsuspecting
individuals such as house workers or visitors may not be legal in all states or
countries. This is particularly crucial if a security camera installed on your
property partly covers – or could cover a public area – such as the sidewalk in
front of your house. So please be sure to check with your local authorities.

All in all, security cameras are a welcome addition to your overall home
security concept. They provide you with sufficient protection to make you
sleep soundly at night or during the day.

Home security is a subject that a lot of people don’t want to think about. That’s probably because if they start thinking about it too much they might begin to realize that by not doing enough they could end up losing some of their most valuable possessions. They might falsely believe that implementing a few effective measures would be too expensive and time-consuming. The reality is that when it comes to securing your home, the little things do count and can mean the difference between being targeted and not being targeted. That’s because they can change the way criminals look at your home.

Many people believe that home security technology is out of their reach. But such technology is all about the perception that criminals have of your home. Criminals don’t want a tough score. They want something that is going to be a walk in the park. After all, they’re lazy. That’s why they want to steal other people’s stuff to begin with. They don’t want to work hard like the rest of us. Additionally, they know that a lot of homeowners out there are lazy too. A lot of households fail to implement any sort of security measures, let alone effective ones. So if they come across a home that will make things difficult for them, they will probably just move along to the next home.

Of course, the wise homeowner will not only change the perception that criminals have of their home, but they’ll also implement measures that will thwart even the most daring and foolhardy of criminals should they happen to press further. Basically, if a criminal ever decides to test the effectiveness of your home security measures, they shouldn’t have an easy time, if you’re doing things right that is. That pretty much rounds out the ultimate goal: You want to have the perception that your home is a hard score, and then have the technology to back up that perception.

There are number of ways you can improve your home’s image. The first thing is to tidy it up and put all valuables away in storage containers. Criminals like to see a messy household because it tells them that the owner doesn’t care too much about his belongings, which usually translates to the home having weak home security. Another way to improve your home’s image is to throw a guard dog in your backyard and place motion-activated flood lights all around your home. This shows that you are aware that criminals like to prowl around and that you don’t want them doing that around your home.

As far as having technology to back up that image, the best thing you can do is have a home alarm system installed. Essentially, your home will be like Fort Knox in that it will be all but impossible to successfully burglarize. An intrusion will almost always be detected and once detected the police will be dispatched to the scene. Criminals won’t have a chance. The best part about it is that such a system is inexpensive, sometimes costing as little as $1 per day.

Theft of valuables from the home due to carelessness is very common. Never take home security for granted. If you make an effort to be secure, you will be protecting your family and your valuables much better.

o Securing doors and windows is extremely important. Many burglaries occur as vandals had easy access to the garage door where they worked unnoticed to gain entry into the house. Never leave your house, even for just a few minutes, without locking all doors and windows. Use dead bolts to improve home security. A pet entrance is not advisable. Have wide angled viewer installed in the main door to check who is at the door.

o Do not leave an extra pair of keys hidden outside your house; instead, leave them with a neighbor or friend.

o Make sure all doors and windows, which are not within your view, are locked when you are at home.

o Fuse boxes and power sources have to be secured, to make it impossible for criminals to tamper with them.

o Have a good burglar alarm installed.

o Make sure you periodically check all home security systems and have them serviced regularly.

o Keep your garden trimmed ensuring an unobstructed view of your house from the road or your neighbors.

o If you have to deal with windows accessible from the fire escape be sure to check that the windows are hardy, tamper proof, and secure.

o Never leave a message in your answering machine, indicating you are away.

o Do not have predictable habits change your routine often.

o Get your self a sturdy safe to lock up all valuables and important documents.

o Keep your home insurance up to date.

o Change all locks if you just moved into the house.

Choosing the best security cameras for your home should not have to be a difficult task. If you keep in mind the things that matter most to you, that will ensure you get the right security cameras for your needs the first time. Determining what part of the home you wish to view is the first step.

There are so many areas to your home, it can become expensive getting enough cameras needed to view them all. With a few carefully placed cameras with a wide lens to capture those key areas, you save on money and worry. You can also keep in mind that some security cameras might be mounted outside of your home and need to be weatherproof, especially in areas where the weather changes more often than not.

Some surveillance systems might require holes to not only mount to your home but transmit video to your recording device, but this is avoidable using wireless security cameras. If the things you are concerned about are indoor, then look into the various security cameras available to not only use inside but to also look like household items.

Wireless cameras can be made from a variety of items, including clocks, radios, lamps, packs of cigarettes and almost anything you can think of to keep your possessions safe. For those areas where there is barely any light in the room but you still want to capture any movement, there are cameras with night vision so you don’t miss a moment. Hopefully with these options in your knowledge, you can find the right products for you.

A security camera can be setup to record while you are away. If you suspect something is not quite right, this is one way of knowing for sure. A security camera can be hooked up and plugged into your computer monitor. This is one great way of being able to watch what is going on as it is happening. That is why there are so many cameras being sold today.

Even if it a basic set up, you can use this to protect your home. The security camera is monitored by the monitor that your computer uses. This way it can all be watched and the chances of someone slipping into your home are pretty slim.

The camera or cameras that you are going to use need to be placed in several different places. This ensures that all angles of your property are covered. No one should be able to come up to the entrance of your home without being seen on the monitor. You can watch this as it is unfolding.

If you have reason to believe that someone may have done something they should not have, this way you have proof to back up what you are saying. This type of proof is hard to refute. That is why parents use this to make sure there children are being cared for and not mistreated.

When this type of camera is used, there are tapes that have extended play so they will record the whole day you are gone. This can be great for people who work and cannot stay home to see what is happening. Their home may be being targeted for something that they need to know about.

When you use a security camera to let you see what happens at your home, you have the control that you need to make sure that whoever is responsible is prosecuted for this offense. The best part of using a security camera for your home or business is that it can do what you cannot.

Most people do not have the time to watch their business at night or their home during the day to see what is happening. A security camera can do this for you. It is like having the best watch dog in the world. Except you have the evidence on tape should it need to be used to prosecute the responsible party.

Every eight seconds in the residential United States, a home burglary takes place, and the simple fact remains that every home is a possible target. For this reason, home security cameras are increasing in popularity across the country. Security cameras are a great way for the general public to protect their homes, businesses, and loved ones. Of course everyone has seen the movies depicting the grossly rich with their video surveillance, which is why most people do not realize how affordable it has become. Like almost every area of the technology industry, cameras with surveillance capabilities have fallen in price dramatically, making home surveillance real and viable option.

Home security cameras provide insight into suspicious activity around the perimeter of your home. Not only does video surveillance act as a common burglar deterrent, it can help you keep an eye on children, see who’s at the door, or identify criminals who have actually committed a crime against your household. To choose the best security system for your particular household, it is important to take a moment to determine your surveillance needs in order to choose the best system functions and features.

The number and placement of cameras are the most important factors to consider. The number of cameras you purchase will directly impact which recording device you will need to support them. Be sure that you have carefully considered your perimeter and determined the best places for camera installation. Careful planning will save you plenty of time and money later on. Once you have determined camera arrangement, you might them proceed by choosing the cameras themselves. When it comes to home security, the price of particular surveillance systems should not be the deciding factor. Of course everyone has a budget, but if you determine that you can only afford very low quality equipment, you may be better off purchasing some decoys, or fake cameras. If you are planning to go through the trouble and spend the money on home security cameras, then you should not be afraid to purchase high quality equipment.

If you only need two or three cameras, there are many simple systems available that allow you to view captured footage through your TV and even record through your home VCR. More sophisticated systems send feeds through the Internet so they can be viewed form any computer. The important part of this decision is making sure you choose a system that will actually be used. If you are the type of person that will grow lazy and probably not use a VCR system, then it might be worth the extra money to watch your camera feeds online. Again, it depends on what it is you are trying to accomplish by purchasing a home security camera system.

Not only do security cameras bring some peace of mind to any home, they can also increase the value of your home. Because the interest in home surveillance is increasing rapidly, many homebuyers are looking for security camera systems in prospective homes, and a quality system that is easy to use is a valuable commodity. Home security cameras help to deter burglary, keep an eye on the kids, create a sense of security, and even add a little to value of your home. Why would anyone not consider installing home surveillance?
