Home security does not have to mean a team of people that patrol your home nor does it have to mean a plethora of high tech gadgets aimed to deter the common criminal. Just by getting back to the home security basics, you can protect your property, both inside and outside of your home.

Using a fake outdoor security camera to deter criminal activity can be a good strategy when implemented properly. It is especially effective in intimidating against petty crimes or as an extension to an already established security surveillance system. In areas where the would-be offenders are looking for cameras to dodge, fake security cameras can be really effective. The key to successfully using these fake cameras is by making it apparent that the premises are being monitored and make the camera appear as real as possible. There are a number of ways to do this.

To be convincing in an outdoor environment, the fake security cameras must look like they belong outdoors. This means that it must have all the physical differentiating aspects of an outdoor security camera. The camera must either be built to look like it has strong casings or look like it is enclosed in protective housing. Phone lines are being being phased out of home security markets for monitoring at a very high rate. Most house holds today have one to four cell phones, a high speed internet provider and no home phone line. We are going to go over a few options of how to monitor your home security system without a phone line.

Your security system can be monitored via the internet. You will have to have a high speed internet provider. You will need to purchase an IP communication board for your alarm panel. Your alarm company central station will need to be able to support this application. It is a good idea to have your router and cable modem etc. on a small UPS to provide stability in case of a power failure.

You may also have your alarm monitored by a wireless unit. There are several products available for this. Telguard, Alarm-Net, DSC all make units that work really well.
